Toe & Rub Rails Installed
Feb 1, 2026
Over the weekend I began the install of Biscuit's new brightwork, beginning with the toe and rub rails. I began on the starboard side, with the toe rail. The previous dry-fit allowed for as smooth a process as possible, and being a one-man job, provided me with a fairly straight forward install.
Using a ladder to support the aft end of the starboard toe rail, I laid the rail in position. I applied bedding compound to the forward 1/3rd of the rail, Sikaflex-LOT (mahogany), rotated the rail into position and began securing the fasteners. I worked my way aft, applying bedding compound as needed before the rail obscured the outboard edge of Biscuit's sheer line. The ladder was frequently repositioned to capture the curve of the rail, aligning it with the curve of Biscuit's deck. I finished up at the stern, allowing the rail to run out further than needed. I cleaned up the squeeze out with acetone prior to the Sikaflex curing and creating a tougher job. Shaping of the aft end of the rails to be completed.
I repeated these steps on the starboard rub rail and the port rails as well. Bunging the holes will be done in the next session and, generally, additional brightwork installs as available post-varnish.
