Touch-ups to Barrier Coat & Antifoul (11-18-24)
Nov 18, 2024
I arranged earlier in the morning to have the marina reblock Biscuit in order for me to gain access to the portions of the hull hidden by blocking and boat stands. Later in the day, I made my way over to the yard to complete the bottom job by sanding and painting on the barrier coat product as well as the antifoul.
Arriving at Sadler Point Marina, I gathered my tools and materials and set off to complete the work. I hand-sanded the areas of the hull hidden by the boat stand pads and also the blocking. An 80-grit pad made fast work to areas already sanded to remove old antifoul and while she was at the shop. I mixed a batch of the 2 part epoxy-based barrier coat and then set it aside for its induction time. While the paint was doing its thing, I wiped with acetone the areas recently sanded, and then prepped for the painting process. For the barrier coat touch ups, I used a foam roller and applied two coats over a period of an hour and a half. Needing to wait a sufficient amount of time prior to application of the antifoul, I made a run to the shop to return tools and material but also to measure for a new trailer keel board. On my way back to Biscuit, I stopped by the big box to secure the pressure treated 2x8 for the keel board, as well as a couple fresh galvanized carriage bolts.
Back at the marina, I quickly got to applying the first coat of antifoul to the touch-up areas. With the fist coat on, I used the time to gather my tools and materials. After about an hour, I applied the second and final coat of antifoul to the areas requiring the touch-up work. This completed Biscuit's bottom job - already looking Shipshape & Bristol Fashion!
