2nd Round Fairing - Aft Deck (3-31-24)
Mar 31, 2024
I set about today to apply the second round of fairing filler to the surface of the core repair on the aft deck. The day prior, I had sanded the aft deck (as well as the starboard side of the cockpit), but left the sanding of the repair area more or less untouched. I worked through the area with 80-grit sandpaper, periodically reviewing the surface with eyes and a straightedge to get a sense of progress. After a bit of sanding, and satisfied with the progress, I cleaned up the surface with a thorough vacuuming and a solvent wash. I then prepared a batch of epoxy, thickened with 407 low-density fairing filler and applied it with a wide knife. After the next sanding knockdown, I'll have a good sense of whether she requires another thin application of fairing compound.
