Another Varnish Session
Feb 28, 2026
Wanting to get the coaming boards mounted onto Biscuit's molded fiberglass cockpit coaming, I grabbed the time I have left today to sand and apply another coat of varnish to the outboard side. I sanded both boards with 320 grit paper, removed a bulk of the sanding dust, and then followed the prep with an acetone wipe down. In the process I also managed to sand three smaller components, as well as the original companionway slide hatch trim. I was curious to see if I could recover the exterior athwartship rib, but after sanding and applying a coat of varnish, this piece will require a new fabrication to replace it. Back to the shop tomorrow.
