Completion of the Thru Hulls

Oct 30, 2025

I swung by Biscuit in the early evening to complete the installation of the seacocks and thru hulls. Only painting remained, but prior to the application of the bottom paint, I needed to rough sand the existing bottom paint around the thru hull work. With 80-grit paper, I roughed up the area with the random orbital sander. I followed that by wiping the surface down with acetone, and then struck out to the shop to gather a small pot of anti-foul paint and a roller and foam brush.

Back in the shop, I got straight to painting the starboard side and then placed a fan on the surface to promote drying. While the starboard side was firming up, I headed over to the port side for its first application. I cleaned up a bit, returning materials to the shop from the paint booth, and upon my return, hit both sides with the second coat. After turning the fan on the surfaces again to promote that tacky surface, I began to remove the protective tape with a razor. Once the tape was removed, I followed up with the foam brush for a third coat around the area in which I exposed the barrier coat. With the exception of installing the drain hoses, the seacocks and thru hulls are complete.
