First Coat of Nonskid on Cockpit Seating

Feb 27, 2026

Getting a jump on the work this coming weekend, I made my way over to the shop to apply the first coat of nonskid to the cockpit seating. Having recently taped off the cockpit nonskid areas, I arrived and sanded the glossy areas with 240 grit paper to create a textured surface for good mechanical bond properties. Once the sanding was completed, I vacuumed and then acetone wiped the areas to prepare for the TotalBoat nonskid paint. Having used this product in the past, I was happy to see that the paint held the sand particulars in suspension much better than those early applications in years prior.

I metered out some paint in a small tray, cleaned a 4" mohair roller with tape to remove stray detached fibers, and then carefully painted out the surfaces requiring the nonskid paint. After application to the fourth area, I cleaned up and returned the small amount of unused nonskid paint to the can and closed the paint booth for the evening. The second coat of nonskid will be applied over the coming weekend, completing this task.
