Installation of Taff Rail Hardware

May 10, 2026

I had but a little bit of negotiated time on this Mother's Day, so the work was brief but conclusive, at least as it relates to the taff rail. In a previous work session, I prepped the hardware to install on the taff rail - the aft chain plate and the chock serving to manage the dock line for the aft cleat. The prep work focused on locating the points of installation, pre-drilling, and taping for the machine screws to be installed.

Today, I removed a small length from each of the aft chainplate's fasteners, filed the ends and re-threaded them to accept 1/4"-20 nuts. With that task complete, I gathered bedding compound (SitkaFlex 291-LOT), the hardware and their fasteners. For each of the two, I applied an adequate amount to the undersides of the hardware items, placed them into position, applied a bit more SitkaFlex to the machine screws, and then drove them home. A quick one, but happy to have this rail completed.
