Port Coaming Return Block

Sep 6, 2025

With the blanks glued up for the coaming return blocks neatly trimmed, I got to work today on the port coaming block. I transferred the template to the blank, and marked for the generally layout of the return block - including tapers for the deck and the upper portion of the block. This was an iterative process of material removal, test fitting on Biscuit (with the coaming board in place), marking areas requiring further work, more material removal...rinse and repeat. I was back and forth between the paint building and the shop several times today...no doubt I achieved my daily 10K steps!

In the end, I dialed in the shaping of the port side coaming return block, and finished sanded it with higher grit paper before wiping it down with solvent and applying the first sealer coat of varnish - this first coat is thinned to a 50% ratio.
