Sanding Cockpit - Stbd (3-30-24)

Mar 30, 2024

I started the day on the aft deck, having recently removed the taff rail. I choose the Bosch 6" to begin, but having only 150-grit discs and quickly getting my butt kicked, I switched to the 5" random orbital. The smaller profile of the 5" would slow things a bit, but the assortment of discs of various grit allowed me to work efficiently, I worked the aft deck and removed the existing paint down to the original gelcoat, using 60 through 120-grit sanding discs. I left the recently worked core repair for later, knowing that additional fairing rounds would be required.
With the aft deck completed, I moved on to the starboard decks and seating. Again, I used 60, 80, and 120-grit sanding discs as I brought the surfaces down to the original gelcoat. By the end of the sanding session, the starboard deck, up to the coachroof, and the starboard seating was completed. More of this sanding will fill the near-term days ahead, as I focus on material removal to the gelcoat. In all, 25 discs were used in this session.
