Saturday, with rain coming in quick and departing as fast, was a scramble to accomplish as much as possible in preparing for installation of the new TrueDesign composite seacocks and thru-hulls. I focused my efforts on the interior thru-hull / seacock locations: two below the galley sink, the head discharge to port of primary bulkhead, and the head intake to starboard of the primary bulkhead. I focused on these four locations because they were in now way being used - two of the three seacock locations in the engine room were actively draining water from the cockpit scuppers.

The plan for the TrueDesign thru-hulls and seacocks is to mount them on a backing plate made of G10, and to that end, I wanted to prepare the interior surface of the hull for the backing plate by laying up two layers of 1708 biaxial fiberglass. These two layers would create a good base onto which the G10 plates would be secured. Cutting disks in alternating diameters of 4.5" and 5" , I secured one of each to the four locations by first acetone washing the previously sanded surface, followed by wetting the surface with "neat" epoxy, and then applying the disks one at a time to ensure adequate saturation of the fiberglass. I finished off the layup by applying a layer of peel ply to reduce future sanding and prep work, as well as to trap epoxy and prevent runs.

The four locations were all that I could stand in the high heat and high humidity that is Florida this time of year!
