Re-drilling Cockpit Scupper Thru-hulls

October 18, 2026

I made a quick trip to Somerledi, prior to Sunday church service, to open up the cockpit scupper thru-hulls in order to allow for the new TruDesign thru-hulls to be dry-fitted and ultimately installed, but also to allow for the temporary cockpit scupper drain lines to pass thru for draining.

Using a hole saw specifically purchased for these two thru-hulls (45mm), I opened up the original, yet smaller, scupper hull penetrations. The new 1/4" G-10 backing plates that were epoxied to the interior of the hull retained a pilot hole through the fabrication process, that pilot hole now centered within the original thru-hull opening. The hole saw piloting bit was used to center the larger diameter hole saw to open up the slighter larger diameter thru-hull penetration. Prior to departing I passed the temporary cockpit scupper drain lines through the new openings.
